CORVALLIS - Poet David Keplinger, winner of the 1999 T.S. Eliot prize for his first book "The Rose Inside," will read from his works on Thursday, Jan. 31 as part of Oregon State University's Visiting Writers Series.

Keplinger, who is featured in Carnegie-Mellon University Press' new anthology "American Poetry: The Next Generation," will give a reading and book signing at the Corvallis Arts Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Corvallis Arts Center is located at 700 S.W. Madison in Corvallis. The event is free and open to the public.

Keplinger has received grants and awards from the Soros Foundation, the Katey Lehman Foundation, and the Academy of American Poets. He is a 2000 recipient of a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts for poetry and directs the creative writing program at the University of Southern Colorado.

The reading is the third event in the 2001-02 OSU Visiting Writers Series, and is jointly sponsored by the OSU Department of English, The Valley Library, and the Office of the Provost. For more information on the program, contact Marjorie Sandor of the Department of English at 541-737-1648.
