PRINEVILLE - Understanding and managing western juniper in central Oregon range ecosystems is the focus of the 24th annual Oregon State University Range Field Day, set June 25 at the Crook County Library in Prineville.

The all-day event is co-sponsored by the OSU Department of Rangeland Resources and OSU Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center. The public is invited to attend.

Registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. and presentations by OSU research and Extension Service faculty will start at 8 a.m. The field tour will go from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Stops at three field sites are scheduled.

This year's Range Field Day offers an opportunity for participants to hear Lee Eddleman, OSU researcher and authority on the ecology and management of western juniper, summarize his many years of research on managing juniper trees on Oregon range land, said Mike Borman, OSU Extension Service rangeland resources specialist.

Eddleman will retire from OSU at the end of June. His presentation, "Long-term Studies in Central Oregon Juniper Woodlands," will offer an overview of the research he and many of his graduate students have done over the past two decades.

Other presenters at the field day include Tim Deboodt, agriculture agent in the Crook County office of the OSU Extension Service, and Jon Bates and Richard Miller, researchers at the OSU Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center.
