CORVALLIS - Kate Peterson, director of Oregon State University's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, is the new president-elect of the Western Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.

The association includes more than 1,000 members throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Alaska, Arizona and the Pacific Islands, Peterson said.

Peterson, who arrived at OSU in 1999, has served as secretary of the association as well as in a variety of other leadership roles.

The association is a professional organization of people in the western U.S. who administer or advance access and choice to higher education through student financial assistance programs. The group's mission focuses on promoting financial aid and educational opportunities for students by providing personal and professional development to its members, Peterson said.

At OSU, Peterson is responsible for directing operations of the campus Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, including employment, administering state, federal, private and university grants and scholarships, as well federal, state and university loans to students.
