CORVALLIS - Oregon State University's Music a la Carte concert series begins Thursday, Oct. 10, in OSU's Memorial Union Lounge. These free public concerts take place every Thursday from noon to 12:45 p.m., and feature a broad variety of music. Audience members are welcome to bring a sack lunch.
The OSU Department of Music and the Memorial Union Program Council sponsor the series. For a complete schedule of these and other fall music events, call the music department at 737-4061.
The first concert will feature pianist Andrew Todd, performing a program of music from the early 20th century, including works by Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev and Bortkiewicz. Todd, who holds degrees from Northwestern University and the Mannes College of Music in New York City, is a doctoral student at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
As the winner of the Artists International Piano Award, Todd made his New York debut at Carnegie Hall two years ago. He has also performed in New York at the Polish Consulate, the French Consulate, Steinway Hall, the City University of New York, the Church of the Holy Trinity, the Mannes College of Music, and the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer.
At the University of Colorado, Todd has been awarded a Beverly Sears Career Grant, the David Grusin Fellowship, the Robin Sawhill Award for Excellence in Performance, and the Howard B. Waltz Scholarship. Principal teachers include Pavlina Dokovska, Jerome Rose, Herbert Stessin, and David Kaiserman. After two summers at the Aspen Music Festival, Todd attended the Conservatoire Americaine in Fontainebleau, France where he was the only American pianist selected for the program.
An avid outdoorsman, Todd is an enthusiastic fly-fisherman, runner and hiker. A former professional soccer player, he has played the sport in Peru, Germany and the United States. He lives in Colorado with his wife, Lauren, and two-month-old son Jackson. He is director of music at Christ Episcopal Church in Aspen, Colorado.
