CORVALLIS - Soprano Janet Hackett will perform songs by Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Stefano Donaudy, Richard Strauss and Puccini on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Oregon State University.

The free public concert, part of OSU's Music a la Carte series, begins at noon in the Memorial Union Lounge. Pianist Brian Conatser will accompany Hackett.

Hackett is an active performer and voice teacher based in Albany, and a member of the OSU voice faculty. Recent performances have been with the Portland Opera Outreach and Education Program, Portland Opera Performance Institute, and Bel Canto Northwest Vocal Festival and Institute at Portland State University.

She also has performed in Handel's "Messiah" and Mendelssohn's "Elijah," with the "Bravo! Vancouver" chorus and orchestra; in "The Pearl Fishers," with Portland Opera Chorus; and in Verdi's "Requiem," with the Portland Opera Chorus and the Oregon Symphony.

Hackett holds a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and a master's from the Eastman School of Music.

Conatser is a member of the OSU music department faculty. His professional experience includes work with opera and musical theater companies throughout the United States. He has also accompanied auditions with the Music Teachers National Association, National Federated Music Clubs, National Association of Teachers of Singing, and the North American Saxophone Alliance. He has taught music theory, music history, class piano, piano sight-reading and accompanying, and diction.
