CORVALLIS - Registration is now open for classes in the fall session of the Mid-Willamette Valley Saturday Academy, with such topics as forensic engineering, writing and careers in medicine.

The program is hosted by Oregon State University, and provides innovative, hands-on learning experiences for middle school and high school students on topics in science, mathematics and technology. Most courses cost $20 to $40, and financial assistance is available. Classes this fall for middle school students include reporting, mechanical engineering, geographic information systems, careers as a writer, companion animal veterinary practice, paper manufacturing, web page design and chemistry.

Classes for high school students include choosing a college, creating a sketchbook, careers in medicine, the battle against AIDS and cancer, veterinary medicine, watercolor technique, forensic engineering, and careers in imaging sciences.
