CORVALLIS - Fred Stormshak, a professor of reproductive physiology and endocrinology in the Oregon State University Department of Animal Science, was cited for his accomplishments in graduate student training at the 95th annual conference of the American Society of Animal Science held recently in Phoenix, Ariz.

Stormshak received the L.E. Casida Award, given in recognition of excellence in the education of graduate and post-doctoral students in the area of reproductive physiology and endocrinology research.

"Dr. Stormshak conceived and steadfastly has maintained a quality program in basic animal physiology and endocrinology in our department, primarily through training graduate students," said Jim Males, head of the OSU Department of Animal Science.

Stormshak is a distinguished professor emeritus in the department. He came to OSU in 1968.

Two other faculty members in the department were elected to leadership positions in the association during the meeting.

Males was voted president-elect of ASAS and will take over as president of the association in 2004-5. Jim Thompson, OSU Extension Service faculty member and sheep specialist, was elected secretary-treasurer of the Western Section, ASAS, for 2003-04.

Established in 1908, the ASAS is a national professional organization for animal scientists. The association promotes leadership through research, extension, teaching and service for the livestock and meat industries.
