CORVALLIS - Films, talks and a wheelchair tour of campus are among the highlights of Oregon State University's Disability Awareness Week, which starts on Monday, May 6.

All events are free and open to the public and the week begins with the keynote address, "Disability Awareness," by Kim Elderbrook, a member of the United States Student Association Advisory Council. Elderbrook's talk begins at 7 p.m. on Monday in OSU's Memorial Union Lounge.

On Tuesday, May 7, Mike Volpe, Disability Services Advisory Committee chair for the Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments, will talk about "Accessibility Issues in Corvallis." Volpe's talk starts at noon in OSU's Women's Center. Also at noon on Tues day, the video "Disability, Identity and Culture" will be screened in the MU Leadership Lounge.

A roundtable discussion on discrimination against the disabled is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday in the MU Lounge, and a workshop, "Disabling Your Able-ism," will start at 7 p.m. in the same location.

A wheelchair tour of the OSU campus starts at noon on Wednesday, May 8, from the MU north steps, while at 7 p.m. in the MU Lounge, Elderbrook will oversee "A Kaleidoscope of Identities" workshop.

The week wraps up on Thursday, May 9, with a noon screening of the video "Abandoned to Their Fate," in the MU Leadership Room, followed by the OSU Forensics Team debating the Americans with Disabilities Act at 7 p.m. in the MU Lounge.
