CORVALLIS - An Oregon State University professor of geosciences has received a Fulbright Senior Specialists grant to travel to Cork, Ireland, this fall to study, lecture and consult about marine and coastal mapping issues.

Dawn Wright will spend the fall working with the Irish Marine and Coastal Resources Centre at the University College Cork in southern Ireland, where she will lecture and present a series of workshops.

Wright also will deliver the keynote address on geographic information systems and cyber-infrastructure at the Irish National Conference on Geographic Information, which will be held in Dublin. While in Ireland, she hopes to forge a partnership between the OSU/State of Oregon Ocean-Coastal Management Program/Ecotrust and the Marine Irish Digital Atlas at University College Cork.

The OSU professor will lead a workshop detailing an international effort Wright is directing to develop a streamlined approach to collecting and handling complex, multidimensional marine science data. She is a leading expert in the use of geographic information systems applied to marine and coastal regions.

Wright also will advise and consult with faculty and graduate students at University College Cork.

The Fulbright Senior Specialists Program offers two- to six-week grants to leading U.S. academics to support curricular and faculty development at academic institutions around the world.
