CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University football fans will help the homeless and feed the hungry when they arrive in the Phoenix area for the Dec. 28th Insight Bowl against the University of Notre Dame.

Oregon State Beaver fans have worked out volunteer community service project schedules for Monday morning, Dec. 27, with three local organizations - La Mesita Homeless Shelter, Arizona Cocker Spaniel Rescue and United Food Bank.

Beaver believers, joined by OSU President Ed Ray as well as a host of faculty, staff, students and alumni, will start at 9 a.m. on Monday and work for about two hours.

La Mesita Homeless Shelter and United Food Bank are both in Mesa. The Arizona Cocker Spaniel Rescue event will take place at Scottsdale's Chaparral Park with OSU volunteers working on walking and socializing foster dogs.

United Food Bank distributes more than 12.5 million pounds of food and provides more than 9,600,000 meals to those in need each year, while La Mesita annually provides up to four months of comprehensive shelter services to nearly 400 homeless adults and their children.

Arizona Cocker Spaniel Rescue saves dogs from local pounds as well as shelters in California. Although the group's name implies that they only rescue cockers, the organization rescues any breed in need of help.
