CORVALLIS - The Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics at Oregon State University recently honored several students at a departmental event.

OREGON

  • BAKER CITY: Greg Davidson, Baker City, won the Distinguished Master's Thesis award for his thesis, "Finite Element Transport using Wachspress Rational Basis Functions on Quadrilaterals in Diffusive Regions." Davidson will attend the University of Michigan to work on his doctorate.

     

  • CORVALLIS: The Lower-Division Student of the Year Award was made to John Fleming, Corvallis, who will return to OSU as a junior and be vice president of the ANS Student Chapter. Fleming will be an intern this summer at Los Alamos National Lab working on JIMO, the Jupiter Icy Moons reactor for Orbiters project.

     

  • GRANTS PASS: The Upper-Division Student of the Year Award was presented to graduating senior Jake Kathol, Grants Pass, who is a newly commissioned ensign in the Navy and will go to Goose Creek, S.C., for Sub Officer's School.

WASHINGTON

  • CAMAS: Aaron Kriss of Camas, Wash., who received his doctorate in radiation health physics, was awarded the Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation for his report titled "A Beta Dosimeter and Spectrometer Utilizing Plastic Scintillators and a Large Area Avalanche Photodiode." Kriss has accepted a position with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory working on instrumentation.
