SALEM - Charles Redon has been named the new Oregon State University Extension Sea Grant agent in Marion and Polk counties. He replaces Hudson Minshew as watershed education coordinator.

Redon, who most recently lived in Corvallis, is a 1997 graduate of the University of California-Santa Cruz, where he earned a bachelor's degree in biology with an emphasis in ecology and sustainable agriculture.

His background prepares him for a wide variety of activities that an Extension Sea Grant watershed educator performs, including coordinating and facilitating programs relating to watershed management and water quality.

For the past five years, Redon was a technician, manager and consultant with a soil microbiology laboratory, helping growers improve the health of their soil and better understand the soil, water and biological systems around them. He also has volunteered with watershed council and community organizations.

He previously worked at a nursery and as a landscaper.

"So far, I've enjoyed getting to know the staff, the people and the organizations that partner with Extension - and getting to know the resources we have to offer," Redon said. "I look forward to continuing to develop and deliver programs that meet the needs of citizens."
