CORVALLIS - A 2004 graduate of Oregon State University's Marine Resource Management Program has been selected for a prestigious postgraduate fellowship. Laurel Hillman of Corvallis has been awarded one of six national Coastal Management fellowships sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Coastal Services Center. Hillman will be working in Oregon to update and revise Oregon's rocky shores management plan.

She will be employed by the Oregon Ocean-Coastal Management Program, a part of the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development.

While earning her master's degree at OSU, Hillman had already been working on marine resource management projects, including ones related to invasive species. She received her bachelor's degree from the Evergreen State College, in Olympia, Wash., where her concentration was interdisciplinary marine science.

Hillman was nominated for a Coastal Management Fellowship by the Oregon Sea Grant program at OSU. Her two-year fellowship begins in August.
