CORVALLIS - Rebecca Warner, professor and chair of the Department of Sociology at Oregon State University, was honored by OSU's College of Liberal Arts with the CLA Advisory Council Excellence Award.
The award is for excellence in research, scholarship, teaching and service.
Warner was cited for her innovative teaching methods and for seeking out new and creative ways to engage students. The CLA Excellence award carries a $10,000 stipend, which is funded by private gifts to the college from its advisory council.

The College of Liberal Arts also honored five other faculty members for outstanding performance following their post-tenure review. They include Marlan Carlson, Department of Music; Rolf Fare and Carlos Martins, Department of Economics; Gary Ferngren, Department of History; and Charlotte Headrick, Department of Speech Communications and Theater Arts.
Six faculty members were selected as CLA Master Teachers, a program designed to use some of the college's most experienced and talented faculty in teaching freshmen discovery courses, and linking with cohorts of 20 freshmen students for the entire year.
Selected as CLA Master Teachers were Sally Gallagher, Department of Sociology; Sunil Khanna, Department of Anthropology; Kurt Peters, Department of Ethnic Studies; Lani Roberts, Department of Philosophy; Robert Sahr, Department of Political Science; and Gregg Walker, Department of Speech Communication.
