SALEM - College scholarships will be awarded to four Oregon 4-H members this Sunday, Sept. 5, during a special awards ceremony at the Oregon State Fair recognizing their "exceptional efforts in support of county and state fairs."

"The Oregon State Fair Commission offers scholarships annually to support college education for 4-H members who have actively participated in, and supported, the Oregon State Fair during their 4-H careers," said Mary Arnold, Oregon State University Extension Service 4-H Youth Development specialist. "The scholarships are provided as an incentive to pursue further education and to give 4-H members recognition for meritorious work and achievement in 4-H and at the Oregon State Fair."

The State Fair Commission offers $1,000 and $500 scholarships.

The Oregon Fairs Foundation also offers a $1,000 scholarship, which is awarded on the same criteria, except that the Oregon Fairs' scholarship is intended for 4-H members who have participated in, and supported, their county fair, Arnold added.
