CORVALLIS - Beverly Law, an associate professor in the Department of Forest Science at Oregon State University, has been appointed to the science steering group of the North American Carbon Program.

This is a multidisciplinary research program to understand North America's carbon sources and sinks, and the changes needed to meet societal concerns and provide data for decision makers. The work requires coordination of a diverse group of experts studying Earth system science and global climate change.

Law is also the science chair of the AmeriFlux network, which studies exchanges of carbon dioxide, water, energy and other issues in North, Central and South America. She will be one of 17 science leaders participating in this steering group of the North American Carbon Program.

The work is supported by a variety of federal agencies, including the EPA, NASA, Department of Energy, National Science Foundation and others.
