CORVALLIS - Journalist Susan Jacoby will present "Real Values vs. The Real Issue: A Skeptic in Faith-based America" during a Monday, March 7, talk at Oregon State University.

Free and open to the public, the event starts at 7:30 p.m. in OSU's LaSells Stewart Center, 26th Street and Western Boulevard.

Jacoby began her career as a reporter for The Washington Post and has contributed articles to numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Nation, AARP Bulletin, Vogue and Newsday. She has lived in New York City for 30 years.

She serves as director of the Center for Inquiry Metro New York, a research and advocacy organization. She is the author of several books, including "Wild Justice: The Evolution of Revenge," which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Jacoby has been awarded research fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Ford Foundation. In 2001, she was named a fellow of the New York Public Library's Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers.

Jacoby's appearance is part of OSU's Convocations and Lectures Committee Series, which brings three to four major speakers to campus each year to broaden the intellectual and spiritual knowledge of the community. In the past the committee has brought to OSU a variety of noted speakers, including Doris Kearns Goodwin, Michael Moore, Ray Suarez, Linda Wertheimer, Grace Paley, Winona LaDuke and Anita Hill.
