CORVALLIS - Former Portland Trail Blazer star Clyde Drexler, a member of the NBA Hall of Fame and voted one of the 50 greatest players in history, will visit the Oregon State University campus on Saturday, Jan. 22, to sign copies of his new book.

Drexler will be at the OSU Bookstore from 2:30 to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

"Clyde Drexler is not only one of the most popular players in Trail Blazer history, his book was co-written by Kerry Eggers, a graduate of OSU and Corvallis High School," said Brent Steele, general book manager of the OSU Bookstore. "It should be a fun event."

Eggers also will be available to sign copies of the book, "Clyde the Glide." The book will be on sale at the OSU Bookstore.

Drexler attended the University of Houston and his collegiate team was nicknamed "Phi Slamma Jamma" - in part because of Drexler's acrobatic dunks. One of his collegiate teammates was Hakeem Olajuwon, who also was named as one of the 50 greatest players in history.

Portland selected Drexler in the first round of the 1983 NBA draft, and he went on to become one of the NBA's elite players - earning several All-Star selections. During the 1988-89 season, he averaged a career-high 27.2 points a game, while adding nearly eight rebounds and six assists.

Drexler was traded to the Houston Rockets of the NBA in the mid-1990s, and helped them to an NBA championship. He retired in 1998 and spent two seasons as coach of the University of Houston men's basketball team.
