CORVALLIS - Oregon State University is seeking applicants for the Rob Johnson Memorial Scholarship, named to honor a Roseburg native who was one of 14 firefighters trapped and killed by a July 6, 1994, wildfire near Glenwood Springs, Colo.

Preference for the scholarship will be given to members of the Prineville Interagency Hotshot crew, with secondary preference to Oregon forest and wilderness firefighters. OSU students enrolled at the Cascades Campus in Bend are also welcome to apply.

Johnson, a 1991 OSU business graduate, was a member of the Prineville Hotshots when he died.

The $1,000 scholarship is supported by earnings from an endowment established by Johnson's family.

Applications can be submitted online at www.osufoundation.org/scholarships/. The deadline to apply is March 1. For more information, contact Pam Powell at the OSU Foundation, 1-800-354-7281, or by e-mail at [email protected].
