BEND - A prominent radio broadcaster and award-winning journalist will serve as the speaker of the commencement ceremony of OSU-Cascades Campus on June 11. Bob Edwards, host of the Bob Edwards Show on XM Public Radio, will speak at the event in Drake Park in downtown Bend at 7 p.m. Attending will be graduates of Oregon State University as well as the partner schools of Eastern Oregon University, Linfield College and the University of Oregon.

Edwards has received a duPont-Columbia Award for radio journalism, a Peabody Award for excellence in broadcasting, and the Edward R. Murrow Award from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting. He served for five years in the 1970s as co-host of "All Things Considered" on National Public Radio, and is the author of two books on sportscaster Red Barber and broadcaster Edward R. Murrow.

James Foster, OSU-Cascades Campus academic officer, has been friends with Edwards for 30 years, when Foster gave him his first speaking job in a program at Emory and Henry College.

"It's a great pleasure to invite such a distinguished journalist as Bob to speak again, this time to OSU-Cascades graduates, their families, and the Central Oregon community," Foster said.
