CORVALLIS - An industry expert will discuss the fundamentals of semiconductor nanocrystals, how the technology leads to new materials, and how new materials can be fashioned into money-making "widgets" in a colloquium on Tuesday, March 8 at Oregon State University.

Clinton Ballinger, chief executive officer of Evident Technologies, will be the featured speaker at an event sponsored by the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics at Oregon State University. The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 4 p.m. at LaSells Stewart Center's Construction and Engineering Hall, on the OSU campus. A reception will follow.

The colloquium is presented in conjunction with the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute and the Austin Entrepreneurship Program at OSU.

Ballinger has worked on diverse scientific projects ranging from space-directed energy weapons at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, to energy conversion systems and computational predictions for cancer therapy. He holds academic appointments at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical College. Before co-founding Evident Technologies, Ballinger was employed by Lockheed Martin in the Advanced Concepts Research Division where he served as a project leader for advanced designs.
