CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University President Edward Ray was released from Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis, Thursday, after undergoing a radical prostatectomy for treatment of prostate cancer.

The pathology report following surgery indicates that the cancer was confined to the prostate gland. The president's treatment for the cancer will be limited to regularly scheduled Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) tests that will monitor recurrence. It is not anticipated at this time that the cancer will recur. "Beth (Ray) and I could not be more pleased with the results and with the excellent treatment we received from our doctors and health care providers," Ray said. "We cannot emphasize how important it is to monitor for prostate cancer and to receive regular PSA tests. Early detection is very important in successful treatment."

President Ray will rest at home through the weekend and will spend time with family. He anticipates a return to work part-time in the next couple of weeks.
