CORVALLIS - Oregon State University's Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of G. "Mancho" Gonzalez, will present a free, public concert on Thursday, May 19, as part of OSU's Music à la Carte concert series. The concert begins at noon in the Memorial Union Lounge on the OSU campus.

This lunchtime performance will be a preview of the ensemble's final concert, "Songs and Dances" scheduled for Friday, June 3, at 7:30 p.m. at LaSells Stewart Center. The featured piece will be an artistic arrangement of Leonard Bernstein's "Four Dances from West Side Story."

"'West Side Story' is Leonard Bernstein's most popular work," Gonzalez said. "It's as much fun for the musicians to perform as it is for the audience to hear."

Gonzalez is completing his first year as conductor in residence at OSU. He is also the conductor of the Eugene Symphonic Band. Prior to taking this position, he held a similar position at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.
