CORVALLIS, Ore. - After a long hiatus, Oregon State University will once again install a royal court for homecoming, which will be celebrated Oct. 23-29 on the OSU Corvallis campus.

Oregon State University's long tradition of homecoming royalty was broken in 1994, according to George Edmonston Jr., editor of the Oregon Stater, OSU's alumni magazine.

However, after a two-year pause from 1994-95, OSU installed one last homecoming court in 1996 before taking a nine-year break, said Larry Landis, university archivist.

This year's royal court is being selected by a committee of OSU faculty and staff, coordinated by the OSU Student Alumni Association and the Oregon Stater Club.

The court will be introduced to the campus community at the annual homecoming bonfire, set for 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, in the Magruder parking area on 30th Street, north of Western Boulevard.

Also on Oct. 28, the OSU Alumni Association sponsors Classes Without Quizzes. Pupils can learn pros and cons of vitamins, gain a look at OSU's Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital or learn about exercise essentials for mature adults. Eighteen classes are offered; to register, call 541-737-2351, or go online at http://alumni.oregonstate.edu/learning/cwq.html. Classes are $25 for Alumni Association members and $30 for non-members.
