CORVALLIS, Ore. - Susan Castillo, Superintendent of Public Instruction for Oregon, will hold a conversation with faculty and students at Oregon State University on Monday, Nov. 13.

Castillo will speak on "The Importance of Engagement with Schools" from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Memorial Union Lounge on the main campus.

Her talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The event is free and open to the public.

Castillo received a bachelor of arts in Communications from OSU in 1981. She was sworn in as state superintendent in January 2003. As superintendent, she oversees more than a half million students in more than 1,200 public schools.

"This is a great opportunity for people to hear from the state's top person for education," said Sam Stern, dean of the College of Education. "She brings valuable insights that no one else has."
