CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Food for Thought Lecture Series at Oregon State University this fall will host several nationally recognized experts to discuss the benefits and risks of agricultural biotechnology.
All lectures are free and open to the public, and will be held at 7 p.m. in the LaSells Stewart Center on the OSU campus.
The first speaker in this year's series is William Hallman, psychologist and director of the Food Policy Institute at Rutgers University. He will speak Thursday, Oct. 12, on "Public Perceptions of Genetically Modified Foods: People Know Not What They Eat."
The second lecture will be Monday, Nov. 13, by Lee Silver, professor of molecular biology and public policy at Princeton University, speaking on "Challenging Nature: The Clash of Biotechnology and Spirituality at the New Frontiers of Life."
The series is sponsored by OSU with support from the College of Agricultural Sciences and College of Forestry. Funding from the American Society of Plant Biologists also helps make the lectures available through streaming video on the web.
