CORVALLIS, Ore. - The 2006-07 Starker Lecture Series at Oregon State University will feature a range of national experts discussing "100 Years of Forestry in the Pacific Northwest: A Critical Look Back, A Fresh Look Forward."

The expanded lecture series this year begins in October and runs through May, and will be available on local cable television, via the Internet and on the OPAN network. All presentations begin on a Thursday at 4 p.m. on the OSU campus, and are free and open to the public. More details can be obtained on the web at http://www.cof.orst.edu/starkerlectures/index.php

The Starker Lectures are hosted by the OSU College of Forestry and sponsored by the Starker family, in memory of T.J. and Bruce Starker, prominent leaders in the development of sustainable forestry and the modern Oregon forest products industry.

Speakers for this series include:

• Oct. 26: John Perlin, author of "A Forest Journey: The Story of Wood and Civilization," speaking at the LaSells Stewart Center, Construction and Engineering Auditorium
• Nov. 16: Bill Robbins, a distinguished professor emeritus of history at OSU, speaking on "A Century of Forestry: Policy and Politics in the Pacific Northwest," in the LaSells Stewart Center, Construction and Engineering Auditorium
• Jan. 25: David Orr, professor and chair of the Environmental Studies Program at Oberlin College and an expert in ecological design, speaking at the CH2M-Hill Alumni Center, Cascade Ballroom 110
• Feb. 15: Andrew Miller, executive with the Stimson Lumber Company of Portland, Ore., speaking at the LaSells Stewart Center, Construction and Engineering Auditorium
• March 15: Terri-Lynn Williams-Davidson, a member of the Haida Nation and expert on the relationship of aboriginal law to cultural heritage, environmental protection and forestry, speaking in the LaSells Stewart Center, Construction and Engineering Auditorium
• April 5: Jerry Franklin, professor of ecosystem analysis at the University of Washington and a leader in forest ecosystem research, speaking at the LaSells Stewart Center, Construction and Engineering Auditorium
• May 3: Pamela Matson, Chester Naramore Dean of the School of Earth Sciences at Stanford University and an expert in biogeochemical and ecological processes in forest and agricultural systems, speaking on "Science and the Sustainability Transition" at Richardson Hall Room 107.
