CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon Dance, a performance group from Oregon State University, will present its annual spring concert on Friday and Saturday, April 27-28, at the Majestic Theatre in Corvallis. Performances begin at 8 p.m.

Carol Soleau, an associate professor of dance at OSU and the founder and director of Oregon Dance, has created imaginative and innovative new works inspired by her dancers. In addition to OSU students, Oregon Dance also invited guest dancers to perform. Guest artists for this performance include members of Rainbow Dance Theatre, a nationally recognized professional company.

Soleau’s works to be presented on April 27 and 28 include “Oceanid Odyssey,” set to the minimalist music of renowned composer Philip Glass. This dance depicts the antics of Greek water nymphs, as they manipulate hanging waterfall-like sets.

“Hide and Seek” is a musical collage that combines the eclectic music of Belgian group Zap Mama with the softer, more introspective style of singer/songwriter Imogen Heap. The dance features free flowing, wild movements that shift into slower, haunting gestures.

In “Out of Time,” 11 dancers display their individual talents as soloists as their movements are echoed in the background.

Soleau will also present two of her earlier signature works. “Twice Blue” is a wacky view of relationships set to Antonin Dvorak’s music; “Life after Jack” is a comedic alternative ending to the famous “Jack and Jill” nursery rhyme.

Majestic Theatre is at 115 S.W. 2nd St., Corvallis.

Tickets are $12, $10 for college students and seniors and $6 for elementary through high school students.

Tickets can be purchased in advanced at Outdoor Garden Visions, 121 N.W. 2nd St., Corvallis, at OSU’s Women’s Building, Issue Room, and at the door. Tickets can only be purchased in the Issue Room of the Women’s Building from 9 to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The concert is sponsored by the Department of Nutrition and Exercise Sciences, the College of Health and Human Sciences, the OSU Foundation, and the Alonzo and Jennie Bonsal Foundation.
