PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon State University College of Pharmacy will hold an open house on Sunday, Feb. 11, in its new Portland facility at the OHSU Center for Health and Healing.

Free public health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol levels, bone density and blood sugar will be offered, giving visitors a chance to see if they may be at risk for hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes or osteoporosis. Tests will be provided by OSU faculty and third-year pharmacy students.

The event, from 1-3 p.m., will be at 3303 S.W. Bond Ave. in Portland, next to the base of the new Portland tram. Parking structures will be closed but street parking should be available, and refreshments will also be served.

The open house will be on the 12th floor of the new facility. Visitors can see the college’s new classrooms, tour some of its research programs, and visit the “Pharmacy Practice Lab,” which allows students to assess and design patient-specific treatment plans using case-based models. Examination rooms in the practice lab are also used by pharmacy faculty to see study patients involved in clinical trial research.

At 2 p.m., an opening ceremony will be held with comments by Wayne Kradjan, dean of the College of Pharmacy, and Matthew Ito, department chair of pharmacy practice.

The OSU College of Pharmacy, which dates to 1898, has a formal affiliation with Oregon Health and Science University and maintains a satellite campus in Portland. About a dozen faculty and staff working at this location provide additional options for professional pharmacy education, and students in the Pharm.D. program spend their third year of study at OHSU.
