CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State University Foundation has presented its Lifetime Trustee Award to Norbert Wellman of Portland, who was honored at an awards banquet in Rancho Mirage, Calif., Tuesday (March 6).

The Lifetime Trustee Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding service to the university and to the OSU Foundation. Wellman, the co-founder of Ferguson Wellman Capital Management, Inc., has been volunteering for his alma mater for more than 30 years.

“Norb has been a tremendous leader at Oregon State ever since his college days as pitcher for one of the greatest OSU baseball teams in university history,” said Mark Kralj, chair of the OSU Foundation Board of Trustees, and a principal at Ferguson Wellman. “I know firsthand what an incredible person and businessman Norb is, and we are so fortunate to have had his expertise on the foundation’s board.”

In 1952, Wellman was a starting pitcher for the first Oregon State baseball team to make it to the College World Series. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education from OSU in 1954 and 1958 before going on to a successful career in investment management.

Wellman is a past president of the OSU Foundation Board and has participated on numerous committees, including extensive service on the foundation’s Investment Committee. In addition, he has given back to OSU’s baseball team and served as a chair of the fundraising committee for Goss Stadium. Now retired, he still maintains an office with Ferguson Wellman and serves on several nonprofit boards.

Wellman and his wife, Ann, a 1955 OSU home economics graduate, live in Portland and have two grown children: David Wellman and Kathleen Wellman.

The OSU Foundation is the nonprofit organization chartered to raise and administer private funds in support of OSU education, research and outreach. The foundation has assets of more than $500 million; OSU has an endowment of more than $380 million.
