CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University Theatre will present a series of student-written, original one-act plays starting June 7.

Performances are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. June 7-9 and at 2 p.m. June 10 at Withycombe Hall, at 30th and Campus Way on the OSU campus.

Tickets are available at the University Theatre box office in Withycombe Hall from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, June 6-8, and on the evenings of performances at 6:45 p.m. and for the Sunday matinee at 1:15 p.m. Tickets are also available online from the University Theatre at www.oregonstate.edu\dept\theatre. They are priced at $7 general admission, $5 for seniors and $4 for students.

These six imaginative and very different plays are directed by students under the supervision of Charlotte Headrick, a professor of theater arts.

The six plays are: “Richly Blessed,” “Baptist Preacher Girl,” “Graveyard,” “Weak, “Stolen Answers,” and “The Illustrious Quartet of the Maddening March Hares or the Dinner Party.”

“Richly Blessed,” written by Kara Christensen and directed by Ajai Tripathi, is a comedy that centers on newlyweds who make some discoveries about each other. Christensen and Tripathi are both seniors in theater arts.

The cast includes Daryn Bergsma, Jen Waters, Ben Sell, Kimberly Holling and Matt Savino.

“Baptist Preacher Girl” is a play written by graduate student Kryn Freehling that was developed from research by Susan Shaw, a faculty member in Women Studies. The play is taken from real interviews with Baptist women from the South. Directing is Gieselle Blair, a senior in theater arts.

The cast of “Baptist Preacher Girl” includes Kimberly Holling, Amanda Rickenbach, Laura Warden-Camp and Carley Hansen Prince.

Kara Christensen directs “Graveyard,” a play written by Steve McClain. In the play, the editor of a small town newspaper is working late when he is taken hostage by a drunken, former editor of the paper. Actors in “Graveyard” are Mike Turner, Frank Kettenring and Kyle Cowgill.

“Weak” is a drama written by Ajai Tripathi and directed by senior Steve McClain. The drama follows two friends after the funeral of a brother. Matt Smith and Remington Brown are the actors.

“Stolen Answers” follows a group of college students and the pressures on their lives as graduation approaches. The play was written by Brenda Jeffers and directed by Meghaan Smith. Jeffers is a senior in theater arts and Smith is a senior in engineering with a minor in theater. The cast is Remington Brown, Kevin Taylor and Lynsay Klink.

“The Illustrious Quartet of the Maddening March Hares or the Dinner Party” is a wacky, absurdist critique of the art world written by Gieselle Blair. Arin Dooley, a junior in theater arts and speech communication, directs the play. The cast includes Jen Waters, Gary Prince, Kyle Cowgill, Brenda Jeffers and Kendra Thysell.

Heather Hewlett is the stage manager of the production. George Caldwell and Kevin Walker are the technical supervisors and the costume designer is Melissa Ward.

Some plays contain language and situations which some people may find objectionable.
