CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon Dance, a performance group from Oregon State University, will present its annual spring concert on Friday and Saturday, April 18-19 at the Majestic Theatre in Corvallis. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

Carol Soleau, an associate professor of dance at OSU and the founder and director of Oregon Dance, has created imaginative and innovative new works inspired by her dancers.

Pieces to be performed include “I Pod Isolation,” which explores how technology affects relationships. Soleau’s jazz dance students will perform two new stylistically diverse pieces. The first dance, set to Imogen Heap’s popular single “Headlock,” involves intricate patterns in a “quasi” modern dance medium. “Higher Ground” is a tongue-in-cheek depiction of popular 1980’s dance styles. Lou Harrison’s music inspired the creation of “Secret Garden,” a solo set featuring Julie Auxier showcasing her unique approach to movement and its surprising possibilities.

Soleau has also revised two earlier works from her repertoire. “Tip-toeing Tulips” is a comedic quartet to music box sounds, which feature the manipulation of unusual fabric constructions. “Collusion,” set to the music of Anne Dudley, depicts two frustrated bank robbers trying to extricate themselves from one another.

Guest artists for this performance include members of the Washington State Ballet Company and the Willamette Chinese Dance Club. Brian Wood is the lighting designer and technical director.

Majestic Theatre is at 115 S.W. 2nd, Corvallis.
