CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University's Austin Family Business Program will hold a program for family businesses called "Marketing in an Uncertain Economy" on Friday, April 25, at the OSU-Cascades Campus in Bend (2600 N.W. College Way). The event will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As uncertainty arises over the economy, family businesses have the opportunity to carefully analyze their markets and marketing strategies to ensure that their business continues to grow. In this program, OSU marketing assistant professor Keven Malkewitz provides a broad overview of marketing functions and how they are used to create and sustain value leading to sales.

Family business executives will learn how to focus on customers and customer value, thus gaining a competitive advantage that will result in new, more loyal and more satisfied customers.

Malkewitz specializes in product design, emphasizing how firms can obtain competitive advantage through the designs of the products and services they offer. He spent 15 years employed by one of the world's most recognized family business, Adidas, both in the United States and at corporate headquarters in Germany. He consults with several clients in industry, providing a wide range of services.

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion, "Professional Perspectives: Dealing with an Uncertain Economy." The panelists include Steve Kline, owner and CEO of Typhoon!; Bob Johnson, senior partner of Fluid Images; and Matthew Bowler, president and CEO of Mandala.

The program fee is $125. Lunch is included and will be catered by AFBP 2007 Excellence in Family Business Award winner Typhoon!
