CORVALLIS, Ore. - Collages from the "Art About Agriculture" permanent collection of the Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences will be exhibited during winter term in OSU's Center for the Humanities in the Autzen House at 811 S.W. Jefferson Ave.

The show, "Collage Art: Nimble Arrangements for the World of Thought," runs from Jan. 11 to March 19. It includes works by Jan Boles, Caldwell, Idaho; Jody Dunphy, Eugene; Priscilla Hanson, Ajo, Ariz.; Prescott Lewis, Ashland; the late Marjorie McDonald; the late Phyllis O'Gara; Robert Schlegel, Banks; Beverly Soasey, Eugene; Janice Staver, The Dalles; and Charles True, Silverton.

Hours to view the exhibit are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The term collage is derived from French, coller, to glue. Several mid-20th-century painters popularized the technique by adding materials and textures to their paintings. They include Joseph Cornell, Lee Krasner, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg and Anne Ryan.

The origins of collage can be traced to the invention of paper in China around 200 BC, when the technique was used for plying more than one layer or sheet of paper together.

The OSU College of Agricultural Sciences began acquiring works of art for the Art About Agriculture permanent collection since 1983. The art is selected by peer review and purchased from funds contributed by patrons who support recognition of regional artists.
