CORVALLIS, Ore. - Felicia Cohn, director of medical bioethics for Kaiser Permanente Orange County, will speak on health care reform at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, at Oregon State University.

Sponsored by the Hundere Endowment in Religion and Culture, Cohn's talk is titled "The Principle of Justice: What You Need to Know to Understand Health Care Reform." The free public event will be held in Kearney Hall Room 112, 1491 S.W. Campus Way.

Cohn, who is responsible for clinical consultation and ethics administration Kaiser Permanente Orange County, is also director of medical ethics at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. In addition to teaching, Cohn developed the ethics curriculum for the School of Medicine and conducts research on ethical issues. Her area of research is end-of-life care, family violence, patient safety, and medical education.

"Dr. Cohn has a commitment to universal access to health care, rooted in ethical principles, such as justice, as well as within her Jewish religious tradition," said Courtney Campbell, the Hundere Chair in Religion and Culture at OSU.

Cohn co-edited and published "The Ethics of Bioethics: Mapping the Moral Landscape."  Previously she directed and published a study for the Institute of Medicine, National Academies of Science on training health professionals to respond to family violence."

Cohn was also a senior scientist with the Center to Improve Care of the Dying at The George Washington University, where she co-authored a brief to the United States Supreme Court on physician-assisted suicide and provided testimony before Congress on end-of-life care.
