CORVALLIS, Ore. - Portland multidisciplinary artist MK Guth will speak about her work, which includes video, photography, sculpture, and participatory performance art, on Wednesday, May 5 at Oregon State University.

The free public event will start with a reception for the artist at 6 p.m., followed by the lecture. It is at the Construction and Engineering Auditorium of the LaSells Stewart Center, 875 S.W. 26th St., Corvallis.

Guth has been described as a storyteller, influenced by fairy tales. Her work asks the audience to question what they are seeing, and to participate in the art.

Her short video, "I Want to Hold Your Hand," features Guth playing a crime fighter, complete with an orange cape. The work, which questions the very nature of truth, was called "brilliant" by ARTNews critic Barbara Pollock.

Guth was a participant in the 2008 Whitney Biennial in New York City and is an assistant professor at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. She is represented by the Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland.

Her work has been discussed in other periodicals including Flash Art, New Art Examiner and Art in America. She is a recipient of a Betty Bowen Special Recognition Award administered through Seattle Art Museum and an Award of Merit from the Bellevue Art Museum. Guth is a member and the originator of Red Shoe Delivery Service, a collaborative interactive video/performance project.

Guth's visit is sponsored by the OSU Department of Art Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture series.
