CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Six high school students from across the state have been awarded state and county 4-H fair scholarships through the 4-H Youth Development Program run by the Oregon State University Extension Service.

4-H members who have been active in the fair at the county and/or state level received scholarships to help fund their higher education. Applicants are evaluated on their volunteer leadership at fair, participation in fair 4-H project exhibits, a personal essay and academic achievement. This year 39 4-H members competed for the scholarships.

The State Parks and Fair Scholarships of $1,000 each were awarded to Kayla Gordon of Roseburg and Jesse Peters of Monmouth. Ariana Snow of Summerville received a $500 scholarship.

Ashley Culver of Corvallis and Mikenzie Remstedt of Klamath Falls each won the Oregon 4-H Fairs Foundation Scholarship of $1,000.

Katherine Nichols of Canby received the $1,000 Petralli Family State Fair 4-H Scholarship.
