CORVALLIS, Ore. - A new book aimed at giving students a comprehensive understanding of the nutrition, health and safety needs for young children has just been released.

The book was written by Joanne Sorte and Inge Daeschel of Oregon State University, and Dr. Carolina Amador, a pediatrician with Lincoln Health Center in Corvallis.

Titled "Nutrition, Health, and Safety for Young Children: Promoting Wellness," the book is designed to give future teachers practical, applied, easy-to-understand information that will prepare them to serve young children in the family child care, childcare center, preschool and early primary school setting.

Sorte is director of the Child Development Laboratory at OSU's Hallie Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families. Daeschel is an instructor at the Child Development Laboratory and a registered dietitian, board-certified in pediatric nutrition.
