CORVALLIS, Ore. - Forest Grove native Nate Marcel will unveil a new mural featuring sustainability and renewable energy on Friday, May 14, at 10 a.m. in the lobby of the Kelley Engineering Center at Oregon State University.

Marcel, an artist and instructor at Portland Community College, won a national contest to design the mural. At nine feet by 27 feet, it's his largest work of art to date.

The mural, titled "Powered by Sustainability," recognizes the new "green" degree tracks offered by the OSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. These will train students to address global technological challenges while balancing societal needs and economic tradeoffs.  They also involve leadership training and community service projects.

The mural unveiling and dedication will take place just prior to the 11th annual Engineering Expo, also in the Kelley Engineering Center, which showcases student talent, inventions and innovations. Both events are free and open to the public.
