CORVALLIS, Ore. - Ashley Colburn, the young host and producer of a lifestyle and travel show on WealthTV, will visit Oregon State University on Tuesday, Oct. 19, where she will present a professional development workshop for students in OSU's Student Media program - an event that also is open to the public.

The free talk will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the KBVR-TV studios in Memorial Union East on the OSU campus. Colburn will discuss her short but distinguished career, from 2005 high school graduation to Emmy winner in just five years.

Her latest television show, "TAKEOFF...with Ashley Colburn," already has taken her around the world to explore lifestyles, cuisines and cultures. Among the locales visited: Switzerland, Brazil, Bermuda, Tunisia, Spain, Japan and Croatia.

After graduating from Colorado State University in 2008, Colburn became host and producer of a show called "WOW," which filmed episodes in Nicaragua, Turkey, San Francisco and Croatia, looking at culture and lifestyles. The episode in Croatia garnered her an Emmy Award for best U.S. television feature.

This is the first in a series of professional development workshops offered by OSU Student Media that are open to the public, said Julia Sandidge, the new director of the program. Sandidge was a mentor for Colburn at her previous job at Colorado State.

In November, OSU Student Media will host Tom Arviso, publisher of the Navajo Times.
