CORVALLIS, Ore. - Gregory Rorrer, a professor in the College of Engineering at Oregon State University, will lead its School of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering after returning from a two-year appointment with the National Science Foundation in Washington, DC.

He will manage programs that include more than 550 undergraduate students, 90 graduate students and 20 faculty. Rorrer's research is focused on the use of algae in biotechnology,  nanotechnology and environmental applications.

Rorrer earned his doctorate in chemical engineering at Michigan State University in 1989 and joined the faculty at OSU the same year.  He recently was program director for the Engineering Directorate of the National Science Foundation, where he managed a $10 million annual program on next-generation sustainable energy systems.
