CORVALLIS, Ore. - Representatives from textile and apparel companies will be at Oregon State University on Monday, May 14, for a public symposium aimed at introducing students and the community to issues around sustainable textiles.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Austin Auditorium of the LaSells Stewart Center in Corvallis. It is free and open to all.

The symposium will feature seven presentations from West Coast based textile and apparel companies and businesses involved in the manufacturing, dyeing, recycling, certification, labeling, and design of sustainable textiles. Two roundtable discussions will offer students and the community a chance to ask questions.

Companies represented at the event include Patagonia, Nike, Oregon Tilth, InterfaceFLOR, NAU, Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc., and Stoel Rives.

According to OSU student Angela Wartés, attendees will learn more about local companies involved with the textile and apparel industries, as well as technological innovations making manufacturing of textiles more sustainable. She said it is also a good opportunity for students and anyone interested in the apparel industry.

The symposium is made possible through a 2012 grant from OSU's Student Sustainability Initiative and Department of Design and the Human Environment.
