CORVALLIS, Ore. - Three Oregon State University faculty members will perform on Saturday, March 3, during an evening of improvisational and experimental music and animation.
The event is part of the Between the Cracks Forum, a cross-disciplinary initiative designed to foster contemporary and creative music performance and development. It will begin at 7 p.m. at The Arts Center, 700 S.W. Madison in Corvallis.
The interactive multimedia event, "Perceptual Interiorities," will feature OSU music faculty member Dana Reason performing live improvisational and composed piano pieces while Shelley Jordon will conduct live, stream-of-conscious animations that will synthesize with the music. Kevin Patton, also of the OSU music faculty, has created a computer software program called Animato that becomes the third performer by linking sound and image on a data level and creating a digital musical accompaniment to the piano and painted animation.
This unique event is the first collaboration between these three faculty members.
Reason is the director of Popular Music Studies at OSU and is also the founder and artistic director of the Between the Cracks Forum. She has released 11 commercial albums and performed widely as a pianist and composer. Reason has published research on contemporary music and women composers.
Jordon, professor of art at OSU, is acclaimed for her paintings and hand-painted animation work. She received a 2010 Visual Arts Fellow for the pilot program of the American Academy in Jerusalem and was a recipient of the 2010 Oregon Arts Commission Individual Fellowship Award.
Patton is an assistant professor of music and performance technologies at OSU whose work explores the intersection of technology and performance. The design of new musical instruments as well as interfaces and computer systems for analysis, improvisation, and projection is at the center of his practice.
Tickets for the concert are $10, $5 for Arts Center members, or free for students with I.D.
