CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University will host a student leadership conference called "Power of One" April 6-7 that is designed to encourage and empower leaders in the LGBTQQIA campus community, as well as the faculty, staff and friends who provide support.

The conference, which has a theme of "Power of Understanding: A Call for Solidarity," will be held at the CH2M HILL Alumni Center. For more information, contact DJ Zissen at OSU via email at [email protected]

Keynote speakers at the conference will be Andrew Jolivette, a human rights advocate who chairs the department of American Indian studies at San Francisco State University, and D'Lo, a political theater artist and writer, director and comedian actively involved in LGBT issues.

OSU's Office of the Dean of Student Life is hosting the conference, which will address issues of ally development, gender, social justice, leadership, creative arts and other issues that pertain to faculty, staff, students, advisers and others who work with LGBTQQIA students.

In 2006, OSU was identified as one of the top LGBT-friendly campuses in the United States - a recognition it received again in 2011. OSU's Office of LGBT Outreach and Services represents students who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning or intersex - and their allies (LGBTQQIA), as well as other students.
