CORVALLIS, Ore. - A town hall forum will be held at Oregon State University on Tuesday, Feb. 5, to discuss concerns related to recent assaults in Corvallis, share personal safety tips, answer questions and explain how people can become involved in campus safety efforts.

The forum will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the LaSells Stewart Center. It is free and open to the public, and any interested OSU students, faculty, staff or Corvallis community members are encouraged to attend.

Speakers at the meeting, which will include a panel of students and university staff, will explain the infrastructure already in place to prevent and respond to sexual violence. The meeting is also designed to let the campus community know what they can do to become more personally involved in a range of programs. Larry Roper, vice provost for student affairs, will moderate a question and answer session.

"We want to help everyone understand not only what is now available to help improve campus safety, but to learn how they can help," said Carrie Giese, sexual violence prevention education coordinator at OSU.

"With this type of outreach effort we want more people to feel empowered," Giese said. "Campus and community safety is everyone's job, and there are things all of us can do to be a part of it, learn more about evidence-driven methods that can be helpful."
