CORVALLIS, Ore. - Noah Seitz, a cellist and Corvallis native, will open the winter 2016 season of Oregon State University's Music à la Carte concert series on Friday, Jan. 15.

This and all later presentations will be at noon in the Memorial Union Lounge, 112 Memorial Union, Corvallis. All of the concerts are free and open to the public. 

In three major unaccompanied works, Seitz will explore nearly 300 years of musical history. From the familiar opening strains in the prelude of J.S. Bach's First Suite in G Major, Gaspar Cassado's three-movement Solo Suite, and Mark Summer's playful "Julie-O," these accessible and thought-provoking works contrast greatly in style but not musical weight.

The winter season of Music à la Carte continues through March 11 with a mix of new artists and familiar favorites. The schedule is: 

  • Jan. 22: Bridge Town Sound, a Portland-based barbershop choir
  • Jan. 29: Local musicians Dave and Sharon Thormahlen, performing as the guitar-harp duo Thorharpdotcombo
  • Feb. 5: OSU Meistersingers and Bella Voce
  • Feb. 12: Douglas Fir Trio
  • Feb. 19: World music percussion and flute duo Caballito Negro
  • Feb. 26: OSU Chamber Choir, with guests the Crescent Valley High School choir
  • March 4: The eclectic Bay Area-based group, Resonance Jazz.
  • March 11: The Tiptons, a Seattle-based saxophone quartet

Music à la Carte concerts have been a tradition at OSU since 1969. The informal, 45-minute performances are held at noon most Fridays during the fall, winter and spring terms, and showcase a wide variety of musicians and performance ensembles.

Hourly parking is available a short distance from the Memorial Union at Reser Stadium, 606 S.W. 26th St. The Beaver Bus, a free shuttle on the OSU campus, services the lot approximately every 15 minutes.
