CORVALLIS, Ore. - Concussions and head injuries have become common topics of conversation in televised sporting events and online chatrooms. As awareness has increased, so have concerns in athletic programs for youth over what is known as traumatic brain injury, or TBI. 

Dr. Douglas Aukerman will discuss what physicians now know about how the brain responds to concussions and other forms of TBI at the Corvallis Science Pub on Jan. 9. The Science Pub is free and open to the public. It begins at 6 p.m. at the Old World Deli, 341 S.W. Second St. in Corvallis.

Aukerman is a sports medicine physician with Samaritan Health Systems in Corvallis and a senior associate athletic director for sports medicine at Oregon State University. On a day-to-day basis, he manages the sports medicine program for all of OSU's intercollegiate athletics sports teams. He works to ensure that student-athletes receive the best care possible in all aspects of their athletic training, including injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
