CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University is developing a Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan and is inviting stakeholders to participate during a public comment period.

The natural hazard mitigation plan will help OSU identify ways to reduce the potential loss of life and property by studying the impact of natural hazards and identifying ways to lessen the impact of disasters such as earthquakes and floods.  The planning process identifies vulnerabilities and risks associated with natural hazards and develops mitigation strategies to reduce the risk and economic impact after the disaster.

Additional information and updates about the planning process are located at:  http://emergency.oregonstate.edu/nhmp.

OSU has formed a steering committee and, working with Goettel and Associates, has collected information about OSU's buildings and natural hazards that could affect the campus.  Data analysis is being conducted and draft plan chapters are being developed.  Draft chapters and updates will be posted on the website for review and comments.

Once the draft plan is developed, a formal public comment period will begin. The draft is expected to be completed by mid-July 2017.  Plan input or comments can be sent to [email protected].
