Families in Linn and Benton counties are invited to a free event promoting outdoor fun on Saturday, May 31 at Peavy Arboretum. National Get Outdoors Day is a nationwide celebration of healthy living, forest education and appreciating the great outdoors, and this year’s event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

OSU Research Forests, OSU Extension Service and the Benton County Health Department are co-sponsoring the local celebration. More than 25 local community partners will offer a variety of activities to engage visitors and connect youth with the outdoors. Spanish and English-speaking volunteers will be available. The event features many hands-on activities, including free fishing for youth 13 and under, art projects and interactive demonstrations.

Food is available for purchase on-site but participants are welcome to bring their own lunches.

Visitors are asked to park at Crescent Valley High School and take a free shuttle to the event, as on-site parking will not be available at Peavy.
