For the last six decades, Oregon State University’s college radio station, KBVR-FM 88.7, has been connecting its listeners to a broad and eclectic collection of music, talk shows and sports news that only a college station can provide.
KBVR first went on the air in October 1965. It is currently home to 140 volunteer student DJs and hosts more than 100 hours of weekly programming. It has recently been ranked among the top college radio stations in the country by College Media Association.
As part of its 60th celebration, the public can listen to a new series of alumni interviews on a podcast titled “60th Anniversary Rewind” where alumni share their memories of the station. The podcast is available on Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts.
In early June, the station will celebrate its 60th anniversary by bringing together DJs, hosts and staff representing every decade of the station’s past at a KBVR alumni reception which is not open to the public. Alums will tour the station’s most current iteration in the Student Experience Center, have a chance to go on air again and watch the debut of a mini-documentary about the station’s anniversary.
Alumni have also started sharing their memories online on the KBVR blog, where you can read first-hand accounts of what it was like to work as a student employee of KBVR throughout the years.
